*The following information
on mail service in Ukraine is extracted from Peace Corps Ukraine guidance
|
Packages from the States take about two months to
arrive in Ukraine via surface mail, and about three to four weeks via USPS
airmail. The Ukrainian post office charges a set rate per
parcel which each Volunteer must pay to retrieve the packages. |
Tips:
*
Parcels valued less then $100.00 are delivered without a
customs declaration. This price includes parcel value only. Estimate parcel value at less then $100.00 to
greatly simplify the pick-up process. |
*
Ukrainian Customs Law does not allow foodstuff, medicines,
money, or jewelry to be sent across the border. Parcels containing these
items CANNOT be cleared through Ukrainian customs and will be sent back or
seized. (Sending of such items is considered smuggling.) |
*
Avoid sending valuable or culturally sensitive items (video
cameras, laptops, DVD-players, etc.) through the regular postal service. |
*
All incoming mail goes through customs/security check; any
parcel without documents (packing list or invoice) might be opened for
inspection by local authorities. Proper documentation (parcel content list)
is strongly advised. |
*
Phrases like "THIS
SHIPMENT CONTAINS PRIVATE GOODS. IT HAS NO COMMERCIAL VALUE AND IS FOR PRIVATE
USE ONLY" will simplify the pick-up. |
*
Use padded envelopes instead of boxes, since boxes more
often opened and checked. Even big padded envelopes come through unopened. |
*
Keep packages small. |

Please give us a call! Don’t have our number? Well, like our mailing address, it seems
smarter to have you request this information via e-mail rather than posting
it here. (e-mail: vjpulver@puverpages.com or mspulver@pulverpages.com ) |
Please use our cell phone - unlike in the
States, it does NOT cost the cell phone owner to receive calls! |

calling plan: I use Tracfone’s rechargeable plan (low international rate, no
monthly fee, no connection fee & online account management) Call: 1-888-453-0011 |
For planning purposes, when you call us,
it is much later here - Our time zone here is Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) +
2...that means here it is 7 hours later than New York City so if you call us
in the morning where you are, it will be late in the day here. |
You will need to prefix the phone numbers
with dial 011 (International call) to call outside the USA and then
dial the appropriate number. |
